Living successfully with ADHD is about learning to work with your brain, not against it.  More than that, it is about working with your neurological system – often referred to as the polyvagal system –  to foster a sense of safety and calmness.  When achieved, your mind is able to focus in a healthier way.  Here we talk about a few ways to foster this approach:

Core Strategies at a Glance

  1. Mindful Calming Practices

    • Try deep breathing, quick visualizations, or short mental exercises to reset your emotional state in real-time.

  2. Routine Anchors: Sleep, Movement, Food

    • Improve your sleep habits, make movement part of your day, and notice how nutrition affects your mood and focus.

  3. Structure Without Overwhelm

    • Use small checklists, alarms for reminders, and build simple rhythms into your day—easing executive function demands without micro-managing.

  4. Therapy and Medication Synergy

    • Caring for both brain and mood means combining therapy options like CBT with medication if they’re part of your care plan.

  5. Community, Resources & Self-Compassion

    • Lean into support: explore apps, podcasts, books, or peer groups when things feel hard. You’re not running this alone.
