We hear that all the time and yes, that is true. It is not possible to provide a child with a perfect childhood. Parents are human, after all. They cannot get into a child’s psyche and know exactly what it is that their child needs in each moment. They do not have an endless arsenal of parenting techniques for each different child in this moment for this need. They do not have an endless supply of understanding, energy, patience….

Quality parenting involves tear and repair. A breach in connection, a less-than-ideal response is inevitable from time to time. When parents connect with their children regularly in healthy ways, these breaches can be repaired.  The child learns resilience in the process.  Problems arise, however, then there is no repair.  Even more so when safety and consistency are not present.

We are not about blaming our parents at TADAS. What we are about is identifying where the core of our maladaptive behaviors and beliefs come from so we can begin to repair.
