You’ve tried coping strategies. You’ve tried talking about it.  Maybe you’ve even tried medication.

And it helps… but it doesn’t fully go away.

Why Some Approaches Only Go So Far

Many people do all the “right” things:

    • They learn coping skills
    • They talk things through
    • They try to manage their thoughts

And these can help—to a point.  Do them, for sure.  But if the nervous system is still holding onto unresolved stress, the symptoms tend to return.

When Symptoms Keep Returning

This is often the point where people start to feel discouraged.  “Why isn’t this working?”

But the issue may not be that nothing is working.  It may be that we’re only addressing the surface.

Looking Beneath Anxiety and Depression

In many cases, anxiety and depression are not the root problem.  They’re signals.  Signals of:

    • Unresolved stress
    • Past experiences that weren’t fully processed
    • A nervous system that has learned to stay on high alert or shut down most or all of the time

This could be trauma at the core.

Not All Trauma Looks the Same

When people hear the word trauma, they often think of extreme events.  But trauma can also be:

    • Chronic stress
    • Emotional overwhelm over time
    • Situations where the body didn’t feel safe or supported
    • Being invalidated emotionally over time, especially as a child.

Also note that not all trauma is PTSD. But does not mean it isn’t painful or that it cannot have a lasting impact.

Why This Matters

If we only focus on managing symptoms, we may get partial relief.

But when we begin to address what’s underneath, deeper, more lasting change can take place.

The Missing Piece

Lasting change often requires working with:

    • The body
    • The nervous system
    • The patterns that developed over time

Not just the thoughts about them.

A Gentle but Important Shift

Instead of asking:  “Why isn’t this working?”

A more helpful question becomes:  “What hasn’t been addressed yet?”

You don’t have to just live with it.

If you are struggling, there is no reason to continue.  Let’s get together and begin your path toward trauma therapy.
